Trying a Massage Chair in Store: A Comparison Checklist

Illustrative home consultation scene with Costway Immersion 63 and Therapy 36 massage chairs

A useful showroom visit should leave you with a clear record of which chair fits you, which controls you can use comfortably and which questions still need answering. A few organised notes are more helpful than trying to remember every program name afterwards.

Use this checklist alongside our massage-chair range. You do not need to test every chair: shortlist the models that meet your space, budget and documented user requirements first.

Before you travel

Find a participating location in the Relaxway stockist directory and call ahead. Ask whether your exact shortlisted model is available to try, whether a demonstration can be arranged and what the opening hours are on your intended day.

Our Dandenong location is listed at 178 Princes Hwy, Dandenong VIC 3175. Check the directory for current hours and contact details before setting out. Display models can differ between locations.

  • Bring your shortlist with exact model names.
  • Bring your room measurements and any delivery-access questions.
  • Write down your preferred massage feel in everyday terms, such as gentle or firmer.
  • If the chair will be shared, include the other intended adult users in the fit comparison where practical.

Check the fit before comparing features

Ask staff to explain the model’s user limits and seating instructions before operating it. Notice whether you can sit down, reach the controls and get out comfortably. Follow the demonstrated adjustment process for the footrest and any body or shoulder scan the model provides.

Check where the seat, back, arm sections and foot section contact you. If something feels cramped or poorly positioned, note the specific location and ask whether there is a documented adjustment. A label such as “full body” cannot tell you how a chair will fit your proportions.

Costway’s guide for taller and broader users highlights a useful limit of specifications: a maximum weight rating does not establish usable seat or shoulder width. Treat unpublished fit details as questions to resolve in person.

Compare the controls you will actually use

Ask for a demonstration of the start, pause or stop controls and the return-to-upright process. Follow the model’s instructions and staff guidance for any trial. You should be able to identify the controls without relying on someone to find them for you each time.

  • Can you read the screen from your seated position?
  • Can you reach the controls while reclined?
  • Can you find and understand the available intensity adjustments?
  • Can you choose the functions you want without navigating an awkward sequence?
  • Is the operating sound acceptable for the room where you plan to use it?

Where the model permits, ask staff to demonstrate individual functions so you can recognise what each contributes. Keep a note of the program and settings used. A similarly named program on another chair may work differently, so compare your experience rather than assuming the labels are equivalent.

Use the same note card for every chair

Copy these prompts into your phone and fill them in immediately after each demonstration:

  • Exact model and colour: _____
  • Fit: comfortable areas, awkward areas and adjustments tried _____
  • Controls: easy tasks and anything difficult to find _____
  • Functions I would use: _____
  • Program and settings demonstrated: _____
  • Questions still open: _____
  • Reason to keep or remove it from my shortlist: _____

Keep the decision tied to your own experience. Someone else’s favourite setting or a longer feature list does not establish what you will enjoy using at home.

Before you decide

Confirm the exact model quoted, delivery arrangements, support contact and current warranty and return terms with the seller. If you try a chair at an independent stockist, ask that retailer about its own purchase conditions; do not assume Relaxway’s direct-sale policies apply there.

Check home access separately using our room and delivery measuring worksheet. If your comparison leaves a question unresolved, contact Relaxway with your notes rather than guessing from a feature name.

This checklist is general shopping guidance. Follow the exact model’s safety instructions; a showroom demonstration does not establish medical suitability.
